My Fair Lady - 10 Years Later

I hope you are all having a wonderful Thanksgiving week. On Saturday I had a wonderful experience. When I was in high school I was in the school play, My Fair Lady. This year my old high school is doing My Fair Lady again. Jon Eyre, one of my best friends from high school and also in charge of our 10 year reunion, organized that the original cast got back together to see the show. It was a wonderful experience to see the old cast and see a new cast perform one of the greatest plays we ever performed at Juab High School.

The majority of the leads roles in the former cast (of nearly 10 years ago) got together to watch the show. We had a wonderful time talking about the show. I have been so against going home and remembering those times, but this really was wonderful. Also my wife got to see a little more about who I was and where I came from, she also got to meet for the first time people I grew up with. Surprisingly many of them already knew her because of this blog. They had been reading all about her or us for the past year.

The cast did a good job, though it is hard to remember back 10 years, it seemed our cast was a little larger; non the less, they did a wonderful job on the show. The scenes were set up much the same as we had set them up; in fact many of the props were the same ones we used. I played the part of Alfie Doolittle and to see someone else play my role was amazing. Over all, they did a fantastic job and I was proud to see my old high school doing so well. Here is a picture of my character being played by another person:

Alfried P. Doolittle "Common Dustman", ALRIGHT LADIES

The new cast had heard we were coming,I think Jon let them know we were coming, and they all came to meet us and to see what we thought of the show. Most of all Mr. Swenson our old Drama Coach was there and I was so happy to talk with him and see what he has been accomplishing. I remember theater being a big part of my life in High School and it is because of theater I went to Dixie State College. Unfortunatly the theater bug didn't really stay with me while I was at Dixie and I instead found Student Government. Well, because of that I met my wife, so I think it all worked out for the best.

Here are a few more pictures from the show:

Bull Fight

This is a picture of Higgins and Pickering in the bull fight scene, Joe Eyre and Scott Taylor were famous for this scene.

Get me to the church

Get me to the church on time! One of the songs I performed in the show. The blocking of this scene was similar to they way I had done it.

Speed Table

For those who were in the original show, you will remember playing a card game called "speed"; we missed a scene change because of this game. We had used this box as a table to play the game. It has since been repainted, but still exists today.

Husbands and Wives: Big Dreams on a Small Budget: Financial Tips for Newlyweds

Delena and I are not perfect financial planners, but I will say working for a Credit Union and a lot of talking has helped plenty.

Before Delena and I got married we discussed how we wanted to handle our finances. We both come from two completely opposite families when it comes to the world of finances. My family: Budget, Save, Enjoy. Delena's Family, Spend, Enjoy. That is it in a nut shell. Now both did save and have lived great lives, but finances were just handled differently. Further more Delena had lived on her own for a few years and has learned to truly value her money. When we first got married she was worried about losing her freedom of being able to spend her money.

This is how we made our plan: We decided each others money was each others money. We worked for it, it is ours. BUT! We have a lot of bills to pay and a lot of things to cover. So we decided which bills had to pay and who pay what of what. What is left is yours! Of course we have added a savings goal in there is well. This has worked pretty well, since I don't worry what she spends her money on as long as the bills are paid!

Over the past few months Delena has switched jobs and this responsabilities has have fallen more on me why Delena builds her paycheck back up, but we are doing well and so far no major bumps. I remember our honeymoon was different. In my family my dad always pays for everything on the trip, in her family her mom runs the cash! So when were counting our wedding money and getting ready to go San Fransisco, I said lets deposit it all in my account so I can handle the money for the trip. In her mind she heard, "BenJoe, gets all the money!". The whole honeymoon she was worried about asking me for money or what we could buy. When we got home we discussed it and she realized I just wanted to be the man on the trip, that was all. You can never communicate too much about finances.

Many of married friends also struggle with this issue. They are used to buying what ever they want when they want. Credit Cards come with this as well and before you know it you are in debt. I was talking to a friend just yesterday and she was bugged her husband spent money on the most stupidest things in the world, but then she buys 5 pairs of the same jeans and her husband thinks those are stupid.

Communication is the key, I have included with this post two articles I found about finances. They are a little preachy, but I like what it says.

Season's Greatings

Well, It is not quite time to be sending Christmas card yet. The topic amongst my newlywed friends is, "who's house do we go to for the holidays". Many of the couples I have spoken to seem unwilling to compromise on the situation. It is especially tough for people that live long distances from both sides of the family.
One friend I have is a terrible pickle, her family moved to St. George and she hasn't been able to spend the last few holidays with them. Her husband just returned from a mission and has not spent any holidays with his family. You can already see the fight beginning.
Delena and I have had some very civil conversations about it. In fact last year before we got married we talked about it. We (with out a fight) decided we would go to Thanksgiving with her family and Christmas with mine this year. The idea would be that we would rotate each year, unless a family event needed us to switch or attend both we could work it out. I am sure more intense conversations about the topic will take place in the future years, but I am excited that we handled it so peacefully. My man other friends have not been so lucky.

How have you all handled it?

Home...Homeward Bound again...

No we are not on our way to see Simon and Garfunkle nor are we big Simon and Garfunkle fans. But we are headed to St. George tomorrow! Yes, this is our first visit since we were married nearly 4 months ago. Delena is very excited to see everyone and well, I am just glad to be back in Dixie. My second home!

This is one of those trips were the husband just nods and says yes. There comes a time in ever relationship and every marriage were the spouse just agrees because he/she has to. Delena's Uncle is getting married for the second time and it is considered a personal insult to not attend this wedding, not that I don't want to attend, I enjoy most of Delena's Family, but it will be a long long weekend. So I just nod and says, "yes dear."

On the good side, Delena and I are going Golfing this Friday and we will be attending the Temple Saturday Morning. If you are in town join up with us in the 7:15 session.

I will be sure post an update of how the trip goes.

Give me more time!!

Before Delena and I got married, we were two of the most busy people we knew. Constantly struggling for a spare moment to be together and or live. As marriage approached we began to fantasize about how being married and living together would free up so much time.

We have less time than ever. We find struggling for time a constant thing. Delena and I start our days at about 6 am and we end at around 10 pm. But every moment of that time is filled and is busy nearly every day of the week.

Sundays for awhile were relaxing but now with Church callings, our time is filling up even more. WOW! Where does all the time go, But when we are providing for two people, work, school, etc TIME Disappears.

Our friends Jon and Jessica often call to get together but we have to plan things 3 weeks in advance just to make it happen.

I am not sure if being this busy is bad, but it sure was a surprise.

Workin' Out

One of the things that Delena and I have discovered about marriage is the amazing amount of food! Not that either of us are great chefs, and I probably do most of the cooking, but we love to eat. Well the pounds are adding up and Delena and I have decided to do something about it. For one we want our future children to have good eating and excersise habits, and we also would like to be in better shapes.

So Delena's birthday came around about two weeks ago and she really wanted a gym pass, I have always been against this, afriad of just wasting my money. But we went the local gym, The Ogden Athletic Club, We got a freat deal through my work and through being a student, so we are paying $25 a piece. The athletic club is very big, two pools, tennis courts, three gyms, track, hot tubs, tanning beds, and so much more. Not to mention it is about a 2 minute drive from here. With our membership we also received a free consultation with a Personal Trainger and had fitness programs developed for both of us.

We are now finishing our second week of working out and we feel great! We hope we can keep up the momentum. We have set a goal to lose 20lbs and to run in the Goldenwest 5k next April. PLUS! This gives another great thing to do together in our wonderful marriage.

Newlyweds now only 6 weeks!

We have been over wellmed with the posts and emails from friends and family to continue posting the website. After much discussion we have come to the wonderful decision to continue the website and to share with you our adventure into marriage and life.

Since being married a few topics have come up worthy of discussion with our many readers.

  1. Money
  2. Bad Habits
  3. Communication

Delena and I have always prided ourselves as being good communicators. We know were aren't the best in the world, but we have found that we communicate better than most couples we have known (including some married ones). For example: Getting closer to our marriage we discussed goals and ideas about how to manage money and where we were headed so there woul be no surprise to what we wanted to do with our money.

Once we were married we realized we didn't communicate half as well as we thought we had. For instance, on the honeymoon I had suggested that I control the money for the trip since this is how my family did it. But she took that to be that I would always want to control the money. We didn't talk about this for nearly 4 weeks into the marriage when she became upset when asked how we would be paying certain bills. WOW! 4 Weeks of misunderstanding! Eventually we solved the problem and we realized how silly it was. We came up with a solution that hopefully will hold for awhile:

  • We will each keep our separate accounts but be added as Joints.
  • She keeps her money and I keep mine.
  • We will pay all of the group bills out my account and Delena will split the cost on many of those.
  • All the money that is left in her account is hers to spend.
  • We have set up a special Join Savings Account. (This is a special at Goldenwest Credit Union where I work, it earns 3.69%) This we are depositing money into each week to save for a home.
  • We have a debt free plan to be out of our last bits of debt by the end of February next year.
  • We will watch our finances for the next month and then decide on a budget

So far this plan has been working very well for the past two weeks and we again talked about last night to make sure it was working. I think if we keep talking and not holding things back just thinking it will go away or that we have to settle we will do fine.

Also we both have a few bad habits, I always leave clothes in the living room or on the floor, she always leaves dishes in the sink, etc. Again we didn't communicate about it and found ourselves frustrated. We finally did and something we just needed to talk about other things we found could be helped and changed.

I love marriage but it is constant work, I don't how people make it who don't communicate!

As for wedding pictures I will be posting them shortly!

Well, Tomorrow will mean 2 weeks of marriage for Delena and I. Sorry for the late posts. But so much has been happening and we are just sinking back into work.

The marriage went very well. Both receptions were plagued with possible rain and winds but ended up just fine.

We had a few hang ups but nothing major. The company we rented to the tent from for the Nephi Reception called us the day before to tell us they had ruined the tent and were sending a different type of one, but we got a good discount. This caused some stress since we had planned for months for one type of tent. But everything worked out.

The Hurricane winds also caused havoc at the First Reception but everything turned out very well.

Most of all! The temple was fabulous. We love so much the St. George temple and our sealing was fabulous. The former Temple President performed the ceremony and Delena and I Both Cried like rivers, well...I cried like a river. It was so romantic.

From there we went to San Fransisco for our Honeymoon and spent 4 wonderful days in California! I will post more with pictures in the next few days!

Things Remembered

Today we have been finishing our last minute preperations for the wedding. Since the big day is Friday, we are getting very anxious.

In the process we realized we hadn't purchased a cake knife or server. We called around and went to many shops, but most of the places we went their cake servers were cheap. We finally stopped by Things Remembered in the mall. They had many to choose from but we really wanted it engraved. Their engraving takes 7 days. As the sales person began ringing up our items she said "would like them engraved?" I explained we were getting married in 3 days and didn't have time. She then asked, "Do you have 30 minutes?" We said yes and she said she could get it done tonight in 30 minutes. We were so surprised. Plus because our purchase was over $100 we got a Silver Dish with our Names and Date engraved on them as well. We highly recommend Things Remembered.

As for everything else, we are ready to go! Delena has moved in to my place and we are now unpacking everything. We got our plane tickets to San Fransisco for the Honeymoon plus we are staying at a wonderful Bed In Breakfast in St. George. It is called the Seven Wives Inn and we have the "Melissa" honeymoon suite. You can see pictures at this link.

And thanks for the advice on the ring, I took it off!

UPDATE! The Wedding is still on!

Just of those of you that were worrying, there is no need! We are still getting married. Not that we had received any phone calls or emails or doubts. We just wanted to reassure you all.

We have been up to our neck with projects and tasks to help get the wedding planned. Most of our major events are covers. Including purchasing the mens band, scheduling the honeymoon (To San Fransico) and now we just need the wedding license. Speaking of Men's Bands, I love mine! I haven't been able to take it off. But is there a specific rule that I can't wear it until I am married? I mean she can wear hers while we are engaged! So should be able to wear mine? Well I am until someone says so otherwise, but I have turned a few heads with it. In fact with in the first few hours of me wearing it someone noticed it and said, "BenJoe, when did you get married?"

Our invitations are out but I feel they went out a little late. But hopefully they will all make it. We are sending another batch today because we got word that a few dozen people had been left off our initial list.

This weekend we are on our way to St. George for Delena's Endowment in the St. George temple! We are very excited and we will keep you posted on our last minute wedding plans.

Where have the invitations gone?

Delena and I this past Saturday went to see the "Two Hats and a Red Head Tour". Those were the concert tickets I gave Delena when I proposed. The concert was great and Brad Paisley stole the show at the end when he come on stage. It was good to be there and I am glad Delena had a good time. We went with Clint and Valarie, we had a great time.

The biggest mystery of them all has been our invitations. We have waited for ever and they have not arrived. We were told they would be here two weeks ago. But they finally arrived on Monday. We stayed up all night putting them together and finally got them out. All of you should be receiving invitations soon.

Are you Registered Yet?

Two major events in the BenJoe and Delena Wedding Plans took place today. These events are:

  1. Delena had her Bridal's Taken
  2. We Registered

Delena was so excited today to get her bridals taken. Of course she went to the fabulous Inkley's Photography here in Ogden. She said (since I was not allowed to go) that they were fantastic and the photographer took some amazing pictures. Delena's Mom was able to come up and help. She is so happy and excited about the results.

Our second event as I mentioned earlier was we began our gift registry. This is actually a very long process. We registered at Bed, Bath, and Beyond and Target. The both have the same system: Sign Up and then they give you a scanner to scan the items you want. Of course they give you a trusty guide to tell you what you need and how much (Or what they want you to buy). Make sure you have your colors decided for your rooms, etc otherwise it can be a long process. We ran into another couple out doing the same thing we were and they seemed just as tired. One problem for Delena and I is that we have lived on our own for so long we have many of the essentials so it was hard to decide what we really needed. People often tell us, "Pick what you wouldn't buy for yourself." But Delena and I are savers and are happy to save and buy what we want, at least right now in our life.

Here is where we are concerned though: How much is to much? Should we go cheap? Should we go expensive and hope for the best? Do we get lots of things or only a few things? These questions among others has worried us. We don't want people to get the store or go online and look at our list and say, "Who do these people think they are?". So any advice will be appreciated with this one.

Well we will continue to register this weekend and remember you can log on to the website to check it out if needed.

Experts Reveal: How to Get Your Man to Propose

I have decided to branch out the BenJoe and Delena Blog to bring more and more wedding advice to those who may be reading. I read this funny and unbelievable article on how to get that ROCK. So Enjoy the Article and keep posting your thoughts!

FOXNews.com - Foxlife - Fox Features - Experts Reveal: How to Get Your Man to Propose

I found this article to be true in some ways, but for me what scared me about marriage was talking about it. I think we had only dated about 2 months when Delena and I had our first conversation about it. People began telling her to get out of the relationship if she didn't see a ring by Christmas. This scared me to death! I was only 23 going on 24 and wasn't ready for that level of commitment! This article says that women don't talk about it enough and should talk more. Well everything in moderation! Delena and I talked about it off and on for about 1 and 1/2 years and then finally about a year ago I told a frustrated and write down all the questions she had for me and I would answer them with regards to our future. From there we decided to start seriously talking about marriage and prepare ourselves financially for the future. If I could do it over, I would do it the same! Nearly 3 years of dating and we are totally in love!

Say Big "D", little i - x - i - e. That Spells Dixie!

Delena and I just arrived home from a long but very productive St. George Visit or better known to all of us as DIXIE. So many things were completed with this weekends trip. The Nephi wedding decorations were finalized and so was the food. But of most of the time was spent driving in the HOT St. George sun.

We met with the photographer and she sounds wonderful, I really think she will do a great job. She gave us great tips on getting the family ready and some fun picture ideas. Main tip, make sure your family is ready and there on time for when the shots will be taken. If you say we take pictures at 4 pm then they need to be there at 3:30 because so many times do they end up waiting for one brides maid or something.

Delena picked up her dress (I have yet to sneak a peek), but she says she loves it. I also picked out my Tux. We went to Boulevard Bridal and Mr. Tux in St. George all their tuxes are $45 no matter what the style so we were able to get some unique selections for a good price.

Most of the decorations have been finalized and we picked out a lot of flowers. I really think the St. George wedding is going to be great! We can't wait for it all.

We will keep you posted thanks.

Taking Pictures and Invitations

Delena and I Spent the weekend in wedding bliss! We went to the infamous Garden Park Wards in Salt Lake City for our wedding announcement pictures. Our wonderful photographer, Joe Markland (my dad), took tons of great shots. Some how we got there just before the rain fell. This is a fabulous place to get pictures done, they wonderful walls and pillars. Waterfalls, trees, flowers, bridges and rivers. We enjoyed every moment of the visit. You can take photos in the front the back, around the side. Everything about it was great.

The weather report said it was gong to rain but we got very lucky with weather and light. The next step was to get invitations ordered. We have went to Inkley's on 36th street and Harrison in Ogden, to have our invitations done and they have given us fantatic service. They have all new invitations to choose from so we hope ours will be unique from the traditional one you have seen. Everything about the location was good and they were very helpful, not to mention they gave us 10% off our purchase. We haved decided 500 invitiations should be good giving our Families 200 each and then us about 100. Of course we will have to email and call a few people and some will come to the website to check us out as well.

We are so excited everything seems to be coming together. This weekend we will be going to St. George to pick up the Wedding Dress and Finalize our St. George Reception.

UPDATE on UTAHBRIDES.COM: We will be on this Sunday May 14th at 10 pm. KJZZ Channel 14th watch for us!

Wedding Prep 101

Well, Delena and I have been all over the state the past few weeks and if it wasn't for our loving families we would be lost at this whole wedding thing.

Delena and I have chosen a Navy Blue and Pink as our colors. This is very exciting and we have already began planning around those.

We will be holding a Reception in St. George the day of the Wedding starting probably at 7 pm. Then the following day we will be holding a reception in Nephi at our parents home.

Tomorrow we will be taking pictures for our Wedding invitations and begin getting them out. If any of you would like an invitation please email me to verify your address.

The Nephi Reception is going to have a tent around the backyard, it is a 40 feet by 40 feet tent that we rented from Diamond Rentals, used to be "All In One Rentals". They actually didn't have the best service but they do have nice tents. So if you are looking for a tent go there, but don't get anything else from them. My Mom has been out look for more decorations and has really helped us plan for the Nephi Reception.

In St. George Delena's Mom has been helping a lot with the St. George wedding and they all went Dress Shopping together, (BenJoe was not included). So they say it is ordered and ready to go.

I will keep you all posted with our Invitations etc, also May 14th at 10 pm on KJZZ we will be on the show!

UtahBrides.com - WE WILL BE ON TV!

A few days ago and we decided to email Utahbrides.com and see what they thought about our blog/website. For those of you that don't know they do a show every every Sunday helping couples with their wedding plans. We thought it was a cool idea for a future show and maybe there are lots of other websites like ours out there that they could spotlight.

The next day while we were golfing we received an email that said, "WOULD YOU BOTH LIKE TO BE ON THE SHOW!" We were so amazed! Of course we said yes; so a few days later we were in the studio filming an episode of UtahBrides.com! Who would have thought this blog would come so far!

Heather Beers
, from Charly and Baptists at our Barbecue, hosts the show every Sunday Night on KJAZZ channel 14 at 10 pm. She interviewed us and asked me how I came up with the idea for the website, about all the people from all over the world that have come to the site, and of course how we got engaged! I was so anxious I think I cut Delena and Heather off as I was talking, I hope that doesn't show! Either way, we had a fantastic time and we were so excited. They said it will be on in the next couple of weeks!

We also got to meet Kirby Heyborne from Singles Ward, The RM, The Best Two years, etc. He was so funny! Kirby was on the show to talk about his new album, "Inside" You can go to his website and check it out at http://www.kirbyheyborne.com/ I have been listening to it and I love it! Here is an article on his album from The Daily Herald. Read Article

We gave Kirby our web address, we hope he checks out the site as well!

Here are some photos of us at the studio. We didn't have a digital camera so I am working on fixing the lighting on some of the photos because the flash didn't work.

"Heather, Delena and BenJoe"

"Kirby, Delena and BenJoe"

"Kirby and Delena posing for an 'engagement' photo"

Well anyway, we felt so special to be on the show and we thank Robin the Executive Producer, Heather and everyone else for being so wonderful to us and for letting us be on the show. Like I said, it will be on in a couple of weeks, we will keep you posted as to when.

She said YES!

We just got back from the wonderful date! Everything went perfect like clock work. I couldn't have done it with out Clint and Valerie and also Jen Wozab. The whole night Delena was telling me how she had pulled the best April Fools Joke on me by telling me earlier she couldn't make it to the date. But I kept saying I was going to get her back! And I did!

To give you a quick run down, every element of the date went perfect and she left convinced that I was not proposing and that I had to still keep looking. I told her I had yet to ask her dad, going to look for rings really threw her off and then I sealed the deal by giving her the concert tickets. She was so happy! I also mentioned that I was going to try and talk to her dad this weekend to help make sure she had no idea.

When I was running to the front door step I could hear her opening the package and then she ran to the door, I was shocked at how fast she opened it. I said "Will you marry me"? She sat there for a second and then screamed! YES YES YES and hugged me, she then asked if it was all for real or was it an April Fools Joke. But no it was all for REAL!

Well we are now together and she loves the ring, we will post some pictures, etc in the days to come.

Here is Delena:

I can't even begin to describe the feelings I am having right now this is so fun! I will NEVER forget the look on his face when I opened the door and he asked the me the question I wanted to answer so much. I have never her his voice in such a high pitch!
Its been so fun to read all about what's been going on behind my back. It really made the moment even better to be able to read and talk about the details the last hour or so is such a blur I am so grateful to have all this written down!! What a wonderfully thoughtful thing to do! I really feel like a queen. I felt like a queen since our first date! I am so glad he has chosen me to be his wife.

My Last night!

Clint, my brother, said it best--Tonight is your Last Night as bachelor. Though technically I haven't been single for a long time, tomorrow night will be the beginning of the rest of my life. I am very excited. I had been very nervous the night before and this morning but after I picked up the ring I seemed to calm down.

Clint, Valerie, Jen Wozab, and I went through the final details of the night and did a run through. Everything is set and ready to go. I also called Delena's family to warn them and told them not to say anything.

Delena seemed a little fishy as if she may know something so I will have to play extra hard to make sure nothing leaks out tomorrow. Well, thanks for everything guys!

Starting Saturday this site will turn into a joint BLOG for Delena and I, I will let her post as well so we can update you all on our wedding plans.

Tomorrow I pop the question

Last night as I was watching a movie with Delena it hit me that we will be getting engaged on Friday. For the first time I got nervous and anxious for the proposal part to be over with. She told me her boss thinks she is getting engaged on Friday night but she knows me really well and knows it won't be happening anytime soon. Then she talked to me a few minutes ago and told me she doesn't think it is going to happen in time for June (when she wants to get married). She acted really frustrated because she thinks I am waiting for at least two more weeks. I told her not to worry and we could talk more this weekend when we see her family. Little does she know that on Friday night I will be popping the question! I am very excited and scared!

Here is the run down:

She knows about the entire date, but thinks it is just for fun.

  • 6:30 pm Limo picks us up and takes us to Salt Lake
  • 7:30 pm Reservations at the Roof Restaurant
  • 8:30 pm Temple Square and Carriage Ride
  • 9:30 or 10:00 pm Free Time
  • 10:00 pm Head Home
  • 10:30 pm Drop Delena off and give her surprise Concert Tickets and tell her this is the gift she has been wanting for a long time.
  • 10:35 She goes into bedroom and sees the Giant Present, inside saying April Fools your real present is outside.
  • 10:35 and 10 seconds, she comes outside and I will be ready to propose!

Not to technical with plenty of time to waste! Clint will be also dropping by tomorrow to through her off the trail. As well as we will try and go ring shopping that night.

Wish me luck all!

5 Days and Counting

Well, Friday is the day and I am starting to get very anxious. I think Delena will be very surprised. Plans have changed a bit thanks to all of your emails and comments. I have decided to tell Delena about the date, about the limo, everything. Then take her ring shopping the day before and the day of. Plus my brother, Clint, will tell her that he thinks I have found the ring so be prepared for it in the next few weeks. This way she will have no idea about the ring but suspect it to me super romantic. Then at the end of the Date I will give her tickets to a country concert she really wants to go to. I told her the tickets were sold out but I actually bought them last week. At the end of the date I will say, "I want to give you something you really want and will really like," Then give her the tickets. Then at her house she will have the April Fools Gift telling her to come back outside.

Well, She mentioned last night that she didn't think I would be proposing for awhile, when I mentioned where we were going to dinner she said isn't that a popular place for people to propose. I said, "Yes, but I won't be proposing there," She said, "I know, I don't expect you to propose for a few more weeks."

So I know she will be surprised. Well, Thanks to everyone for your support. Just to let you know this Blog will turn into a Wedding update Blog after the engagement. Delena and I together will post information as to our wedding plans to help you all stay informed.

Thanks Again,

Do you want to see a picture?

I have received a lot of emails and comments for pictures of Delena and myself. I will work on getting some up. For now I thought I would post my favorite of us. This photo was taken on her last birthday.

Thanks everyone for your posts and don't forget to vote for the wedding proposal idea.

Many have been asking me how I am going to propose. My idea has gotten some mixed reactions so I decided to post my idea on the Blog and also run a Poll to see what you all think. Please feel free to vote as often as you like, but if you vote no or have a better idea, post it here or send me an email.

My Idea:

I have already told Delena to get April 1st off of work. I told her I got free tickets to a play on that day in Salt Lake. I also told her that we should dress up and go to Dinner and then the Play. BUT, I have to be home early because of a service project I have at work the next day. My idea is to pick Delena up in a Limo for dinner(this will make her really wonder). Then through out the night, dinner, the play, etc I will say things like, "I want to ask you something." But I will never finish the questions like she wants, I will say things like, "I am going to take some new responsibility at work, what do you think," or "We should plan a trip to St. George." Finally we will go to Temple Square, and I will bend down on one knee and then say, "Sorry my shoe was untied."

Finally I will take her home early and say good night. I will then have something in her room a big present or something that says: April Fools, your real present is outside!

I will then be on the porch, on one knee already to ask!

What do you think? Some say it is harsh, others say she will love it! I need your help on deciding, use the poll to the side of this post to give me your vote!

I am so lucky!!! (or do I know her well enough)

I am not just lucky because I have Delena in my life, but also because I think I for sure choose the right ring! In preparation for my wedding proposal I decided to take Delena looking for rings one more time to throw her off the sent that I had already purchased the ring. We went to a few places and at one shop she picked up a ring very similar in shape to the one I choose (except the diamond was raised and small) she mentioned she really liked that style and went on to try 2 or 3 very similar rings. So I feel very confident about my ring choice!

Asking the Father

I am posting this right after I have asked Delena's Father for her hand in marriage.

The original plan was to fly down to St. George during work one day and surprise Delena's father, Darrell, with the question. But surprise Delena's Family decided to come to Salt Lake for the a few days. Tonight we all were hanging out and Delena had to leave early. Next thing I knew I was alone with Delena's dad and I saw my chance. I moved and asked the question:

Can I have permission to marry your daughter?

He was surprised when I asked, but very glad I asked. He said he was glad I was traditional and that I had asked. I wanted to show him the respect he and Delena deserved. He of course gave me the permission and we went on to talk for 2 hours about Delena and I and the progression we have made.

Delena called two times while were talking. I had to push her calls to voice mail because we were still talking. Darrell gave me some great advice about marriage and I think we became much closer tonight.

I am glad that we were able to talk and I learned a lot from our conversation. I also let him know about the website but told him to keep everything a secret but he could tell Jodie, Delena's mother.

Well more will now be visiting the site and I invite you all to post comments. I would also like to hear peoples Wedding proposal ideas!

What a purchase!

Man, I will tell you buying a ring is not an easy job.

I spoke with Craig at Farr's tonight and I told him of some places that I had seen similar rings for cheaper. Mom gave me a suggestion of looking on some websites so I could have some good amo!

Well I I was able to bring the ring down $570 which enabled me to purchase a little bit bigger diamond. I am excited and told Greg to do it! Now it is all about figuring out how to ask Delena!

I have a few weeks so I any ideas feel free to send them!

Finding the right ring

Well I think I have found the right ring. This is a lot harder than I
thought. I did go to Farr's Jewelry after many suggestions, but I felt like
the service I got was fairly poor. After telling a few people this they
suggested I go back and talk to Craig White at Farr's. I called him and he
did a fantastic job. I really felt like he took care of me. We looked at
all sorts of rings! It seemed like I was there for hours. We finally
narrowed things down to the right type of ring. I was worried that it still
might not be the one, but probed Delena a little more to see what she would
like and I think this is about it.

So I believe I found the ring I want but I will need to see if I can get him
down in price. If I am successful I think we will be getting engaged here
soon. We are checking on some diamonds and Craig is going to call me on
Monday. Hopefully we can move down in price!

Just Spending Time Together

Delena is speaking in church today! She is a little nervous but I think she will do fine. She came over last night and read me what she has prepared and it was fantastic! She is speaking on institute and why we should attend. Just then I remembered why Delena and I started going to institute. We started last year going to a Marriage preparation Class. We loved it so much and it was a fantastic opportunity to be together and learn about the gospel. We learned so much and really loved our teacher. I highly suggest that anyone thinking about getting married should attend one of these classes, it really can open your eyes to a lot of wonderful things.
The time we spend together doing the things of the gospel have been so meaningful to me, we really have grown closer each day because of this. Last night we spent a few hours going back over her talk and adding some scriptures and quotes to give it a little umph! It was so fun working together on the things of the gospel.

Delena has an amazing testimony and I am so glad to be with her.

We just got home from church and I will tell---Delena did an amazing job. I was so impressed with her talk. Hands down hers' was the best talk given today in church. In fact I am not sure anyone even really prepared their talks as diligently as she had. I was very proud of her, I wish you could have all been here to see it. As she gave her talk and we went through the day, I realized that March was the month. I need to plan this month to formally get engaged with Delena! AHHH!! That is so scary, but I am ready and it is time.

I will keep you all updated!

How we first met.

Well, since my old friend Melissa came to my Blog yesterday and asked how Delena and I first met, I got to thinking. Maybe you all would like to see. So here is the story.

While I was Student Body President at Dixie State College, I had an assistant. Her name was Carolyn Toone. I guess I have to give her some credit for introducing me to Delena. One night around 7 or 8 pm I was in my office doing some work. Suddenly I heard our office door open and In walked in Carolyn and her two friends--Lisa and Delena. I quickly got to know them and we all began talking. Delena(I thought from that very moment)was very attractive. But I noticed right away she was wearing a wedding ring. If I can remember right, she had on a purple shirt and gray dress pants. I even think she had a suit jacket on, but I can't remember.

Well we all began talking and I was staying away from flirting with Delena because of the ring. Then she began flirting with me! Suddenly she mentioned that she worked in the Jewelry Department at Sears and wore the ring to keep guys from hitting on her at work. The Door Opened! We began to flirt back and forth. The topic of cell phones came up and I at the time was selling cell phones so I began to sell her on a phone. As we all said good night, I gave her my number to call in case she wanted a phone and then decided to get hers to follow up. Just as I wrote her number, I realized, I NOW HAVE HER NUMBER!!! So, I said, "Maybe I will call ya sometime." She smiled and said it was ok if I did.

Well the rest is history, We went out a few times for about 2 weeks and then we started dating! 2 years later here we are.

I love her so much!

Delena made me look at rings!

Just when I thought I was safe. Delena makes me go look at rings! We went to a movie in the mall and walked by Morgan's Jewelers, she just wanted an idea I guess. I think I like the titanium rings better. Maybe two tone. If you look in the picture you will see Delena walking in front of me. She still has no idea I am doing this blog. Which is great, because she is sitting right next to me in the movie.

Well we are watching "The Wedding Date" which isn't to bad so far.

I guess Delena went looking at rings by herself at the gateway today as well. She says she has really expensive taste! She said she is glad I am picking it out and not her!

Well that is enough for now.

Do they do weddings there?

Delena and I are in church as we speak. I decided to download pictures of the St. George Temple on my phone to help pass the time. I showed her this one and she joking asked, "Do they do weddings there? If so we should book it." Once again I am reminded why I love here! She is so cute.

Happy Birthday Memories

Today is my birthday! Delena gave me a wonderful Portable DVD Player. I am really excited to use it. She also got us some great Jazz tickets for tonight. Surprise that is where we are right now! I am posting this from my Cell Phone. I am sure Delena thinks I am just playing on it, she gets really bugged when I play on my phone all the time.
On the drive down here Delena and I got into a conversation about one time we were going to go look at rings. Apparently there was a huge mis-communication and we never went. As we were walking towards a restaurant in the Gateway, I pulled her into a J. Brooks Jewelry store. She was so excited! We spent about 20 minutes in the store and she looked at a lot of different rings. She really likes the silver sold bands, thick ones at that. She also made mention to really liking the marquee cut. Delena also should a little interest in a wedding band. This gives me some great ideas of what to do and where to go. I have yet to go up to Farr's but I think I will this week.
Well, Delena was very happy and it made for a good birthday, Thanks Delena!

Here is a picture from the Jazz Game

The Jazz are playing fairly well considering the Hornets suck! I think that Jazz are going to win! Our seats are pretty good, front row of the second bowl. Delena has never been to a real NBA game before so she is very excited. We are having a great time. Thanks Delena for the Tickets.! If only she knew that I as doing this website for her. I am so excited for us to get married and have fun like this every night.

Looking at Rings

Well I am excited to start this web blog so everyone can see how Delena and I's wedding plans are coming a long. Right Now Delena doesn't know I am writing on this site. I will try and keep it updated so after we are engaged she can go back and see how my planning has come along.

I have been Saving money now for about 6 months to help pay for the wedding and a nice ring. In reality, all I want is for her to feel like a Queen, (one would say a princess, but Delena deserves more than that). Two days ago I went to Belliston's Jewelry in South Ogden and talked with them about the different diamonds, rings, bands, etc. I am pretty sure I know what Delena likes, but I think I will need to take her out a few more times. I still want this to be as much of a surprise as possible.

It is amazing all the different sizes and of diamonds and how one little thing can change the whole price. I have received a lot of advice to stay away from the Mall, Delena herself knows this because she worked at Sears Jewelry. They, the mall, mark things up like 20% to 30%. I have received some good advice to go to Farr's Jewelry. Apparently they are willing to match or beat any price. If you have any more advice feel free to send it my way.

The Wedding Talk

This weekend Delena and I went to her brother, Brandon's wedding. It was a great time.

The reception turned out to be very nice and Delena's mother, Jody, did a fantastic job. We were very surprised at the number of people that asked us about our wedding! I mean come on, it is Brandon and Brooke's. We shrugged them off with our usual excuses. I came up with a new one about waiting for the China Temple to be built and dedicated, but nobody thought it was funny. I learned me lesson on that one.

After everything was said and done, we did get to talk to Delena's parents a little about our feelings. We are pushing for a summer wedding and colors of Light Pink and Blue. Later that evening we spoke to my parents as well and began the dreaded conversation of money. We told them we wanted to help pay on both sides of the wedding. They were very responsive and I could tell my mom was excited to finally talk about it.

We are learning a lot about the wedding process, Delena and I don't want to rush it, we want it to be very special.

Finally, Delena and I have made some Savings goals that could put us in good shape for a summer wedding. I really think we could have about $400 to $500 for each side of the wedding. But we will see.

I will tell you one thing! This is getting a little nerve racking, but I am excited at the same time.
