I hope you are all having a wonderful Thanksgiving week. On Saturday I had a wonderful experience. When I was in high school I was in the school play, My Fair Lady. This year my old high school is doing My Fair Lady again. Jon Eyre, one of my best friends from high school and also in charge of our 10 year reunion, organized that the original cast got back together to see the show. It was a wonderful experience to see the old cast and see a new cast perform one of the greatest plays we ever performed at Juab High School.
The majority of the leads roles in the former cast (of nearly 10 years ago) got together to watch the show. We had a wonderful time talking about the show. I have been so against going home and remembering those times, but this really was wonderful. Also my wife got to see a little more about who I was and where I came from, she also got to meet for the first time people I grew up with. Surprisingly many of them already knew her because of this blog. They had been reading all about her or us for the past year.
The cast did a good job, though it is hard to remember back 10 years, it seemed our cast was a little larger; non the less, they did a wonderful job on the show. The scenes were set up much the same as we had set them up; in fact many of the props were the same ones we used. I played the part of Alfie Doolittle and to see someone else play my role was amazing. Over all, they did a fantastic job and I was proud to see my old high school doing so well. Here is a picture of my character being played by another person:
The new cast had heard we were coming,I think Jon let them know we were coming, and they all came to meet us and to see what we thought of the show. Most of all Mr. Swenson our old Drama Coach was there and I was so happy to talk with him and see what he has been accomplishing. I remember theater being a big part of my life in High School and it is because of theater I went to Dixie State College. Unfortunatly the theater bug didn't really stay with me while I was at Dixie and I instead found Student Government. Well, because of that I met my wife, so I think it all worked out for the best.
For those who were in the original show, you will remember playing a card game called "speed"; we missed a scene change because of this game. We had used this box as a table to play the game. It has since been repainted, but still exists today.
